Cinderella: A Fairy Tale

Your wings already exist, all you have to do is learn how to fly.
This Christmas, why not try a different kind of fairy tale? Feisty, fun, joyful and with some baddies that you’ll love to hate.
Ella misses her mother and father. Her step-mother is the worst, a horrible bully determined to make her life a misery. Her step-brother and sister are no help. Nature is her escape an the birds seem to be her only friends.
But, when she meets a boy in the woods, her heart begins to flutter, her mind races and she begins to believe in the magical power of love.
And then: an invitation for all of us to join in the festive cheer at the Queen’s Christmas ball!
Full of music, dance, puppetry and comedy, Cinderella is a retelling of this classic tale for anyone who has ever dreamed that good will always win.
Lace up your boots, make a wish and let’s join Ella for a glorious girl-powered adventure.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an ensemble company who live or have a base within 25 miles of Newcastle upon Tyne. Auditions will be held in Newcastle on 8th – 10th June 2023 at Northern Stage. Online auditions and self-tapes are also available on request. There may be a second round on the 15th June.
We aim to let artists know the final outcome by Monday 18th June.
Rehearsals: 30th October- 24th November 2023
Tech: 27th November – 1st December 2023
Previews: 2nd – 6th December
Press: 7th December 2023
Final show: 6 January 2024
We want to reflect the city and region we live in and welcome inclusive casting for the following roles.
Payments are within equity rates at £589.00 per week plus holiday pay.
ELLA
We are looking for a performer to play the role of ELLA. ELLA is our protagonist who is later given the nickname Cinderella. This character is bold, positive, upbeat, tenacious, feisty and has a keen love of the outdoors and nature. Adventurous at heart, she faces life’s challenges with joy in her heart.
A strong singing voice is desired and someone comfortable with movement.
Playing Age: 15-20
Accent and Dialect: Accent and Dialect: North East Dialect with an ability to explore other accents.
MOTHER/FATHER
We are looking for a performer to play both the Mother and Father characters. A fantastic opportunity to play Cinderella’s loving and wise Father and wicked Step-Mother, who fears growing old and losing her beauty.
An ability to play an instrument and sing is desirable but not essential.
Playing Age: 40-60
Accent and Dialect: Accent and Dialect: North East Dialect with an ability to explore other accents.
SISTER/QUEEN
We are looking for a performer to play both the Sister, who is demanding and uncaring for Cinderella. She only wants her own way and the pride of her mother. The Queen is lavish and very protective mother of her Princey, wincey.
An ability to play an instrument and sing is desirable but not essential.
Playing Age: 45-55
Accent and Dialect: Accent and Dialect: North East Dialect with an ability to explore other accents.
BROTHER/WOODPECKER/ MALE WAXWING
We are looking for a performer to play the Brother. He starts out being a bit of a tease and a bully to Ella. However, he grows to protect her and confide in her. He is articulate, bright and charismatic.
An ability to play an instrument and sing is desirable but not essential.
Playing Age: 20-30
Accent and Dialect: Accent and Dialect: North East Dialect with an ability to explore other accents.
PRINCE
We are looking for a performer to play the part of the Prince. A kind natured, asthmatic, bird watching fanatic who dreams of finding true love and escaping the confines of the palace to be at one with nature. Some might call him a geek but he thinks he’s really chic!
An ability to sing is desirable.
Playing Age 15-20
Accent and Dialect: Accent and Dialect: North East Dialect with an ability to explore other accents.
NUTHATCH/BAND/MC
We are looking for an actor-musician or someone who wants to explore performance but might consider themselves more of a musician.
Music is so important in the world of Cinderella. As part of this track you would be part of a fantastic chorus of birds, vital to assisting Ella on her adventures and the MC at the palace ball.
An ability to sing is desirable.
Playing Age: 18+
Accent and Dialect: Accent and Dialect: North East Dialect with an ability to explore other accents.
WAXWING/BAND
We are looking for an actor-musician or someone who wants to explore performance but might consider themselves more of a musician.
Music is so important in the world of Cinderella. As part of this track you would be part of a fantastic chorus of birds, vital to assisting Ella on her adventures and the MC at the palace ball.
An ability to sing is desirable.
Playing Age: 18+

All submissions will be acknowledged and receipts issued.

- Your preference for an in person or self tape audition. Self tapes must be received by 12pm on 8 June.
- Any access needs you may have to audition, or if there’s anything we can do to make your time with us as comfortable as possible.
Following the deadline the team will review submissions and invite selected applicants to meet us at Northern Stage on either the 8th, 9th, 10th June at Northern Stage, in Stage 3. We will try to work as best we can with your availability to accommodate as many artists as possible.
